ALERT 62/26 MSCIO has received information regarding an incident at approximately 07:30 UTC on 14 June 2026 in position 09°47’N 051°27’E. According to the information received, two boats carrying six persons onboard each approached a general cargo vessel while continuously firing weapons and ordering the vessel to stop. The vessel’s armed security team returned fire for approximately 30 minutes, after which both boats turned away and departed the area. The crew, armed guards, vessel and cargo were reported safe. Operation ATALANTA is investigating the incident. Vessels operating in the area are strongly advised to maintain heightened vigilance, adhere to BMP-MS, and report immediately any suspicious activity or relevant information to MSCIO and UKMTO.
