ALERT 70/26 MSCIO has received information regarding an incident at approximately 07:15 UTC on 05 July 2026 in the Southern Red Sea, approximately 30NM southwest of Al Hudaydah, Yemen. A bulk carrier reported being approached by one skiff, which closed to within 20 metres of the vessel and opened fire. The armed security team onboard returned fire, after which the skiff moved away and proceeded towards a mothership vessel located approximately 2NM away, with AIS switched off. The vessel and crew are reported safe. Operation ATALANTA is investigating the incident. Vessels operating in the area are advised to maintain heightened vigilance, adhere to BMP-MS, and report immediately any suspicious activity or relevant information to MSCIO and UKMTO.
